Willkommen parents and students;

                Welcome to the beginning of a new year at Huntington North High School. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in the near future. This is my fifth year of teaching German, but my second year at HNHS. I taught German for three years at North Central Jr/Sr High School. I graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with Honors. During my time there, I was able to student teach at Carmel High School.  I have taught students from grades 7-12. I am the youngest of four sisters and proud aunt to six darling nieces and nephews ranging from 1 to 10 years old.

                My theme for this year is: Connections.  Group work is being emphasized, collaboration skills will be taught, and I hope to connect with parents like never before via our German Program website: This blog! The German Klub will be kicking off soon looking for new members.  Dues will be $20 which will get your student a club T-shirt and free entrance to any German Klub events (minus fundraisers) held at HN.   Starting with the ’09-’10 school year, we have been able to offer AP German to those students that have completed German 3 and hope you will encourage your child to continue through that level. We also now boast a one-of-its-kind parent organization with which you will be encouraged to be active.

                I want to congratulate you and your son or daughter for choosing to take a foreign language. Knowledge of a second language not only enhances one’s opportunities in the job market, but it also helps to develop and reinforce skills that are essential to academic study. It can also bring us back to our historical roots. My German heritage is one of the many things that fuel my love of this language.

                Attached you will find a course description as well as the student expectations and procedures for the coming year.  Please take a moment to read and discuss these with your child. With your help and support, I am sure that the 2014-15 school year will be a very successful and positive one for your child.

                If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 260-356-6104 ext 1041 or better yet e-mail me at adavis@hccsc.k12.in.us  For reading assignments at home, I would suggest using the site www.dict.cc  Encourage your student to utilize this website on a regular basis!  You can also access student grades at any time through the school website. You should receive more information from your child or from the school district directly.

Vielen Dank in advance for your time and support,

Sincerely,
Frau Davis
